Oakmont’s outpatient program’s classification, certification, and requirements are based on criteria established by the Alabama Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation’s (DMH/MR). A brief description of the two (2) levels: Intensive Outpatient and General Outpatient is indicated below.
Intensive Outpatient
Initially, a psychosocial diagnostic assessment is required of all clients before being admitted to the program. The cycle consists of a minimum of 40 three-hour sessions of group and/or individual therapy on 1-4 different days of the weekboth during the day and/or night for a total of 120 contact hours as follows:

In addition, to help prevent an individual’s continuous drug use, clients are required to undergo at least 2-3 random drug-tests through the screening of urine specimens. The total cost of the program is $535.00---which includes a non-refundable $50.00 assessment fee which is to be paid at the time of initial enrollment. Afterwards, the cost is roughly $12.00/class---which can be paid per class, by the week, or every month.
General Outpatient
Generally, this program requires fewer sessions (of the client) than does the intensive outpatient. However, a psychosocial diagnostic assessment is required of all clients prior to being admitted to the program. Normally, for its completion, approximately 20--- three hour sessions of group and/or individual therapy is required. The frequency of attendance and the number of drug/urine tests required are determined by the assessment, clinical judgment, the person’s progress, and other related clinical issues. The cost is $267.50---which includes a non-refundable $50.00 assessment fee---to be paid at the time of enrollment. Afterwards, the cost is roughly $13.00 per class---usually paid as clients attend the sessions.
Activities for both of the above described tracks---I.e., Intensive and General Outpatient include: lectures, education (stressing the physical basis of addiction as well as its psychological, emotional, spiritual and social symptoms), both group and individual counseling, extensive use of audio-visual materials, and reading assignments. The program also involves guest speakers, seminars, the participation of various and sundry professionals---as well as family members and significant/relevant others.
